Democrat Joe Biden has picked up the gauntlet to address the most pressing issues shortly after his stellar win in the presidential elections 2020 against business tycoon Donald Trump, who is facing difficulty to concede defeat as yet.
The president-elect has convened a meeting today to address the issue of coronavirus pandemic on a priority with the top officials.
Biden today announced the members of the task force, which will include former surgeon general Dr. Vivek Murthy and former Food and Drug Administration commissioner David Kessler. The Two will lead the task force while Yale University professor Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith will also guide the team.
In his speech after the unofficial results declared him as the next president of the US, Biden vowed to focus on healthcare, climate and coronavirus pandemic.
“Our work begins with getting covid under control,” he said, mentioning a plan “constructed out of compassion, empathy, and concern.”
The coronavirus pandemic and the measures to curb it are among the key issues for the upcoming Biden and Kamala Harris-led US administration.
Meanwhile, World Health Organisation’s Director-General Antonio Guterres has congratulated Biden on his victory, stating that the pandemic will not end without leadership.
On Saturday, Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden clinched the 2020 US presidential elections, beating Donald Trump with total electoral college votes of 273, according to the BBC tally.
