KABUL/KIEV: Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has denied a claim by its deputy foreign minister, Yevgeny Yenin who said that a Ukrainian plane had been hijacked from Afghanistan and taken into Iran.

“There are no hijacked Ukrainian planes in Kabul or anywhere else. The information about the hijacked plane, which is being circulated by some media outlets, does not correspond to reality,” Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry stated.

Iran has also denied the presence of any hijacked Ukrainian plane in its territory.

Earlier, Ukraine’s deputy foreign minister Yevgeny Yenin had claimed that a Ukrainian plane that arrived to in Afghanistan to repatriate Ukrainian nationals from the country was hijacked and taken to Iran without any Ukrainian nationals on board.

Russian News Agency TASS quoted Yenin saying: “Last Sunday, our plane was hijacked by other people. On Tuesday, the plane was practically stolen from us, it flew into Iran with an unidentified group of passengers onboard instead of airlifting Ukrainians. Our next three evacuation attempts were also not successful because our people could not get into the airport,” he said.

According to Yenin, the Ukrainian rescue plane was hijacked by armed individuals amidst the chaos at Kabul’s Airport.

Yenin further stated that Ukraine’s diplomatic service “had been working in the crash test mode” to evacuate its citizens from Afghanistan.
