President Donald Trump continued his unrelenting verbal assault against Dr Anthony Fauci, America’s leading epidemiologist, in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday morning, falsely categorizing him as a “Democrat” while deceptively accusing him of the administration’s disastrous handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

During an interview with the right-leaning network’s morning show Fox & Friends, Trump criticized Dr Fauci, a member of his White House coronavirus response task force, saying “he’s been wrong” during the whole Covid-19 episode.

When inquired about what appears to be a dispute manifesting between Mr Trump and the prominent infectious disease expert, who has served as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease since 1984, the president referred to him as a “nice guy” and added: “It’s good if people trust him.”

“He’s a Democrat,” Mr Trump also said about the doctor. “He is a little bit not a team player.”

Dr Fauci, on the contrary, insisted that he remains “apolitical” in recent interviews following the president’s use of his quotes in a campaign ad. A spokesperson for Dr Fauci also maintained that he “is not affiliated or registered with any political party, nor does he endorse any political party or candidate”.

Since being highly involved in the fight against aids under the Ronald Reagan administration, Dr Fauci has served under and worked with every single president thereafter. Activists have credited him for restructuring the way federal government and the international scientific community conduct clinical research trials when it comes to novel viruses.
