KABUL: Taliban supporters held a mock funeral in the eastern city of Khost, carrying coffins draped with American, French, British and NATO flags.

According to Reuters, during the mock funeral, some attendees held their guns in the air while others waved Taliban flags.

During coverage of the event, Taliban official Qari Saeed Khosti also declared Aug. 31 “our formal Freedom Day” in an interview with local television station Zhman TV.

“On this day, American occupying forces and NATO forces fled the country,” Khosti said.

Meanwhile, The U.S. completed its withdrawal from Afghanistan late Monday, ending America’s longest war.

Taliban leaders took over control of the Kabul airport Tuesday and marked the departure of the last U.S. plane from the country by taking a symbolic walk across the airport’s sole runway.
