KABUL: At least 15 people have been killed and 34 wounded after two explosions followed by gunfire hit Afghanistan’s biggest military hospital in Kabul.

The explosions took place at the entrance of the 400-bed Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan hospital in central Kabul.

Taliban’s Interior ministry spokesman Qari Saeed Khosty said security forces had been sent to the area.

There was no official confirmation of casualty numbers but a Taliban security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said there were at least 15 dead and 34 wounded.

Despite reports about a possible suicide attack, the Taliban official said the nature of the incident is not yet clear.

Investigations are underway. There is no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.

The hospital was previously attacked in 2017 when gunmen disguised as medical personnel killed at least 30 people.
