Peace in Afghanistan a shared responsibility: Pakistan FM

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister of Pakistan Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan is a facilitator, not the guarantor of peace in Afghanistan.

While addressing a news conference in Islamabad, Qureshi said Pakistan facilitated the Afghan Peace Process with utmost sincerity. He urged the international community and the regional countries to play their due role to facilitate peace and stability in Afghanistan. He said Peace in Afghanistan a shared responsibility, International community cannot shy away from it.

The Foreign Minister said Prime Minister Imran Khan has always said that there is no military solution to the situation in Afghanistan. He said a negotiated, inclusive and broad-based political settlement is the only way forward to establish peace in Afghanistan. He said it the people of Afghanistan to decide their future as Pakistan has no favourites there.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan fully rejects the baseless accusations made by the Afghan Representative in UN Security Council. He urged the Government of Afghanistan to refrain from blaming Pakistan for the failures of others. He said I have invited Afghan Foreign Minister to visit Islamabad to and discuss and resolve issues if any on the dialogue table.

He called upon all the sides to respect human rights as the withdrawal of US and NATO troops are nearing completion.

Foreign Minister said we will not allow the use of Pakistan’s soil against Afghanistan.
