Pakistan’s dissident journalist Hamid Mir to appear on BBC HARDtalk

ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist Hamid Mir will appear on BBC HARDtalk to speak about the state of press freedom in Pakistan.

According to BBC statement, program host Stephen Sackur speaks to prominent Pakistani senior journalist Hamid Mir. Having survived assassination attempts in the past, he is facing accusations of sedition for suggesting powerful forces in Pakistan are targeting the free media.

In Pakistan journalists who ask the awkward question of people in power need to watch their backs. In the last year, there have been a string of attacks on reporters. The perpetrators remain unknown and unpunished. The Government insists Pakistan is a bastion of media freedom.

Hamid Mir is a high profile columnist and TV presenter, a survivor of several assassination attempts and is currently facing accusations of sedition.

HamidMir, was forced off air recently and his brother Amir Mir was also arrested by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime yesterday.
