An emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council will be held today (Monday) to discuss the situation arising from the Taliban s takeover of Kabul.
In a statement, the UN Secretary-General has urged the Taliban and all other parties to exercise the utmost restraint in order to protect lives in Afghanistan.
The action came after the Taliban carried out a lightning sweep of Afghanistan, with government forces collapsing without the support of the US military, which is finalising its withdrawal in alignment with an August 31 deadline set by President Joe Biden.
The insurgent’s takeover of Kabul which triggered fear and panic among the residents.
